College Placement Counselor

Job Description

 

 

Reports to the Headmaster and/or designee

 

Education & Experience Requirements:

Law 147 dated August 9, 2002 requires that College Placement Counselors have no less than a Masters in Guidance and Counseling or a Masters in Counseling.  Eight out of ten courses (as listed below) from an institution (college or university) accredited by the Consejo General de Educacion de PR (CES):

 

1.     The Process of Helping/Research and Program Evaluation

2.     Human Development and Dysfunctional Behavior

3.     Occupational Development/Career Development

4.     Group Counseling

5.     Evaluation and Mediation

6.     Social and Cultural Foundations

7.     Theories

8.     Professional and Ethical Matters

9.     Individual Counseling

 

A written examination given by the Board of Examiners.  Once examination is approved, a minimum of 500 hours of work practice is required supervised by a certified mentor.  (This is not necessary if the person already has a regular license.)

 

Licenses/Certifications:

 

License of the Department of Health of Puerto Rico

 

A Regular Professional Counselors License from the Department of Education.

 

(The license has to be renewed every three years and this person has to have time to attend professional development workshops that are approved by the Department of Health, the requirements are 45 credits hours, which include 6 hours of Infectious diseases.)

 

Main functions:

1.     College/University Applications and Placement, Grades 9 to 12

2.     Coordinate Autopista College Fair and other College Visits

3.     Guide students with Essays and  application deadlines

4.     Nivel Avanzado Coordinator

5.     Statistics and reports on all standardized testing

6.     Helps students with courses selection

7.     Create an annual plan with goals and deadlines

General Functions:

Coordinates, purchases, administers exams as follows:

1.     K-12

2.     AP Exams

3.     PSAT

4.     SAT

5.     ACT

6.     Iowa

7.     ERB

8.     College Board

9.     Learn Aid, in conjunction with Spanish Department

10.  All standardized testing (Learn Aid, etc.)

11.  Coordinates, purchases, and/or administers career inventories to High School students

12.  Coordinates Career Day

13.  Offer an intro to College Course at the High School level

14.  Job Shadowing

15.  Financial Aid and Scholarship info to students and parents

16.  Summer program info to students and parents

Computer Technician/IT Support

Job Description

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems/Computer Science

 

Experience, and Skills Requirements:

One (1) to three (3) years of work related experience.   A working knowledge of mainframe computer operations, including job scheduling, report printing and distribution, and input/output control is expected.

 

Fully Bilingual (English/Spanish)

 

Travel Requirements – 5%

 

Licenses/Certifications:

A Regular Teaching License for Information Systems/Computer Science from the Department of Education accredited by the Consejo General de Educacion de PR. 

 

General Functions:

Performs all functional duties required to support the information needs.  Key areas of support include the maintenance, installation and inventory control of computer hardware and software and telecommunications equipment, administration of systems security and the local area network(LAN), system job scheduling, input/output control, and report distribution.  Additionally, the incumbent provides computer-programming efforts to support reporting and related systems and hardware and software maintenance to computer based audio/visual equipment, security, training and any other computer related system. 

 

·         Perform duties and responsibilities required of a Local Area Network (LAN) Administrator in including (at a minimum):

1.    Maintain access security to the network to guarantee only authorized access is attained.

2.    Maintain accurate records of all network users and their access capabilities.

3.    Ensure that proper use of LAN-installed software is achieved.

4.    Ensure that adequate space is available on the file server.

·         Maintain access records of all user access to mainframe application systems.  Maintain records to track hardware and software problems in order to prepare historical and trend analysis reports.

·         Maintain control of the inventory of PC’s, projectors, and other technology equipment that is used throughout the school campus.  Maintain a schedule to allow teachers reserve equipment for special events.

·         Ensure compliance with internal control standards related to information service.

·         Performs related duties or projects as assigned by the supervisor.

·         The incumbent is responsible for the general operation of all of the information services functional areas as they related to the delivery of telecommunications, computing, input/output control, and report distribution services.

Expected Areas of Competence (i.e. KSAs)Expected to keep abreast of new information technology development, both hardware and software. Knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) administration and Security administration (mainframe and LAN) is required.  Team work and customer focus oriented.
