STUDENT DRESS CODE

 

(The following are guidelines. For a more detailed description of dress code and appropriate attire including casual days, field trips, etc.

please refer to the “Student/Parent Guide” which the students receive at the beginning of the academic year or is otherwise available on campus.)

 

                                                                                                                                      

 

The Caribbean School uniform consists of standard items that identify the students as attending Caribbean School. It must be worn properly when students are on campus or on field trips. A separate specific uniform is required for physical education (PE) classes. Headscarves, bandanas, elaborate bracelets, sweat bands, tattoos, and hats are not permitted. It will be the judgment of the building principal, neither the parents nor the students, to decide what is acceptable.

 

Girls’ Dress Code 

 

  1. In grades Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6, white or royal blue collared knit polo shirt bearing the school insignia. Shirts must be tucked in.
  2. Girls in grades 7 and 8 may wear either (a) navy blue vest with white shirt or (b) royal blue collared knit polo shirt.
  3. In grades 9, 10, and 11 navy blue vest with white shirt only bearing the school insignia. Shirts must be tucked in.
  4. Skirts or jumpers made from the approved Caribbean School material, so that the length hits the top of the kneecap.
  5. Single color black lace, buckle or loafer shoes are acceptable. Shoes should be of material that is “shineable”. High heels, clogs, platforms, canvas (sneakers) are not allowed. Plain white crew-length socks must be worn.
  6. Hairstyles must be kept simple. No lavish coloring of hair. Hair must be well-groomed, clean, and must not interfere with the learning process.
  7. Simple jewelry is allowed. No more than two earrings per ear. Simple chains or necklaces are allowed.
  8. Nails are to be well-groomed and not distracting. Girls may wear light-colored nail polish with no designs.

 

Boys’ Dress Code

 

  1. White or royal blue collared knit polo shirt bearing the school insignia. Shirts must be tucked in.
  2. Only navy blue dress pants may be worn. Jeans of any type or cargo pants are not acceptable. The pants must be in good condition and fit properly. They must be worn properly (not down the hips).
  3. Belts are mandatory and must be black.
  4. Navy blue shorts (not cargo shorts) may be worn in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6.
  5. Single color black lace, buckle or loafer shoes are acceptable. Shoes should be of material that is “shineable”. Canvas shoes or sneakers are not allowed. Plain white crew length socks must be worn.
  6. Hairstyles must be kept simple. Hair must be well-groomed, clean and should not interfere with the learning process. For boys this means that hair is not to be long enough to touch the collar or be of an unacceptable style or color. Hair cannot be tied back or shaved in certain areas only.
  7. Boys must be clean-shaven on a daily basis and may not wear beards, mustaches or sideburns that extend below the ear.
  8. Boys may not wear earrings while on campus.
  9. Boys may not color their nails.

 

Physical Education (PE) Uniform

 

PE clothes must be worn during physical education classes and any after school sports activity. Middle and high school students must bring their PE clothes and change for PE class. Elementary students must come to school dressed in their PE uniform when PE is scheduled for their class. If PE falls on a Casual Day, elementary students should wear sneakers.
