Elementary School

 

2016 - 2017

School Hours:

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 10 for all grades. The school day begins at 7:55 AM with assembly and will dismiss at 2:49 PM. Exception for Pre-Kindergarten students who will have two short days; the first two days of school will dismiss at 11:00 AM.  Kinder students will have one half-day and will be dismissed at 11:00 AM.  After this first day, the Kindergarten students will have normal/regular school days.  The bell rings at 7:55 AM. Regular dismissal for Pre-K and Kinder will be 2:30 PM.  Students should be picked up no later than 15 minutes after their dismissal time. Please remember – when a child is dismissed early from school, a parent is required to sign out the child from the school office. School office hours are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Parent Teacher Organization (“PTO”) News

The PTO store will sell school supplies on August 8 and 9 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

School Supplies:

Students may purchase additional school supplies at the PTO Store. A list of necessary supplies by grade is available on the counter in the Elementary School Office.

School Uniform

The Caribbean School uniforms are available at Casa Dedos/López, Calle Isabel, downtown Ponce. Students are expected to be in their proper uniform on the first day of school. (PE clothes may be worn if regular uniform is sold out at store.)

Schoolbags:

 

This is a reminder that the elementary school students should bring a backpack or schoolbag that is the appropriate size for a child to be able to carry up the stairs by him/her self. Backpacks with wheels are allowed as long as the backpack is a reasonable size and can be picked up and carried by the child. Your child is expected to be able to pick the bag up to go to the second floor. Please do not put your child in an uncomfortable position and ask the child to carry more than they are able to manage on their own.

Visitor’s Parking:

 

Due to the limited number of parking spaces, parents will need to park outside on Calle Navarra. After signing in at the gate with the security guard, please report directly to the Elementary School Office.

Class Lists:

 

Class lists with classroom/homeroom teachers will be posted outside the Elementary School Office as of August 6, but only for Pre-K and K due to an orientation that will take place from 8:00 AM - 10:30 AM.  Pre-K and K supplies may be brought in the day of the orientation.  The other class lists will be displayed on Monday, August 10, outside the Elementary School Office.
 

Birthday parties:

 

While we want to celebrate every child’s special day, we would like the celebrations to be reasonable. Each teacher makes an effort to make a birthday special for every student. If a parent wishes to bring something to eat, it must be no more than a small treat (cake, cookies, piece of candy) and a drink (water, juice, milk). I would emphasize the harm of eating of foods with excessive sugar and the problem of unwanted ants and rodents.

Back to School Night:

The program is planned for Wednesday, August 17, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. The purpose of a Back to School Night is to allow parents to visit the school, be introduced to the staff, and visit their child's classroom. 

 

Parent Teacher Conference:

 

Please call the office (787-843-2048 Ext. 221) to notify that you would like to schedule a meeting with your child's teacher or simply send a note requesting a meeting.  Your child's teacher will return your call or write back providing you with available dates and times.  We look forward to having an awesome school year and we are anxious to see all the children again!
