January
2010
It is so
hard to believe that seven months ago I was introducing myself as the
incoming Elementary Principal at Caribbean School.
It has been my mission to encourage every member of our school
community to “buy in” to a personal philosophy I try to live by.
“We do not have problems, we solve problems”.
The 2009 -2010 school year, like any other, opened with unique
challenges. The global reach of
the swine flu was a hurdle for every school.
From there to the recent situation in Haiti, this school year has
presented its fair share of problems to solve. We embraced the opportunity
to meet these challenges head on and guide our students through the process
of being courageous in the face of adversity.
We have
had an amazing start to the school year and the first semester has been
marked with many memorable events.
From BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT to DISCOVERY OF PUERTO RICO DAY, the
students have been challenged to work hard and be active participants in the
educational process. From
GRANDPARENTS’ DAY to the various performances led by the Spanish and Fine
Arts departments, the students have proven themselves ready for the
challenge and eager for more.
The faculty and staff have diligently worked to prepare the students for the
challenges they will continue to face and to lay the foundation for them all
to move forward, daring to be life- long learners.
We
simultaneously open the second semester with the start of a new decade.
We are very excited about the possibility of the new decade bringing
considered and continuous expansion to Caribbean School.
We are very pleased with the prospect of a new dining room
/auditorium being constructed on campus.
The plans are in the approval stage and we may be advancing toward
groundbreaking in the near future.
This
spring semester will be very active here at Caribbean School.
We look forward to the ERB writing assessment and IOWA testing; we
anticipate the same level of success as was achieved with the LearnAid
testing this past fall. We are
privileged to be hosting the Regional Spelling Bee competition, St. Jude’s
Math-a-thon and Vocabulary Week.
The sixth grade will be performing The Wizard of Oz and there will be so
much more. The Caribbean School
is committed to academic excellence, while developing independent learners
and creative thinkers who become successful and caring global citizens.
As we open this new decade, keep watching out for Caribbean School
Panthers. From academic and
athletic competitions to fundraising for UNICEF and other needy
organizations, students at Caribbean School will continue to leave paw
prints in an attempt to positively change the world.
We are Caribbean!
