HEADMASTER’S MESSAGE

1.    Greetings from the Main Office.  I hope that you and yours are well and happy.

2.    Please be aware of the new additions to the Conditions of Enrollment for everyone on the Registration Form for next year:  “Spaces will be held for students in each grade in the order in which the families pay registration and fees, up to June 30.  After June 30, spaces will no longer be guaranteed or held for families who are not fully paid.”

3.    This is a reminder that the USA goes on daylight savings time this coming weekend.  Remember this because it will make an hour’s time difference between Puerto Rico and the USA.

4.    Do not let your guard down concerning AH1N1 flu virus.  We are, of course, continuing procedures to keep everyone safe and protected from the AH1N1 flu.   If your child is sick in any way, do not send him/her to school, because we will send him/her home.  Thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS

1.    Congratulations to Blamir Quiñones, Emily Barsness, Ivette Martinez and the PE Department, to the Basketball players, grade 11, and grade 11 parents and all the other teachers and staff who participated for their hard work and their support for the basketball tournament on Saturday.  Against all odds, no electricity, rain, events at Colegio Ponceño and McDonalds, Caribbean School carried on and the event was a success.

2.    Welcome to the three trainee teachers who arrived on Friday and have begun work with us today from Iowa State University.  We are pleased to have them here.  This is the third year in a row that we are doing this program.   We hope it will be worthwhile both for the trainee teachers and for us as it has been in the past.  All three teachers will be working in the Elementary School.  They are Ashley Finer, Anya Tomscha, and Alyssa Wilson.  Thanks also to those Caribbean School employees who are helping out with these teacher trainees, including Dyalma Bracero, Denise Planas, Aleli Vazquez, Ann Klapatch, David Jett, and others.

3.    Congratulations to Edgardo Jusino who has just had his Thesis accepted and now has a Master of Arts in Education with Specialty in Technology Education in Systems of Instruction.

4.    Congratulations once again to Stephanie Burgos.  Stephanie has been accepted into the Harvard Summer School Program once again.  Way to go, Stephanie!  Congratulations to you and your family.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

This week is set aside as Girl Scout week.  We are fortunate to have the organization represented in our school community.  Thank you to everyone that supports this excellent opportunity to assist in the development of our girls.

Student Led Conferences are this month.  This year there will be three different days for this activity.  The 6th grade will have their conferences this Friday, March 12th.  Grade 5 will be the next Friday, March 19th.  The grade 4 will be on the originally scheduled date of March 26th.

Developmental volleyball has started.  Mr. Wauters and Ms. Willson will be organizing this activity.  Come out and join them on Tuesday and Thursday weekly, beginning this week.  Be on the lookout for professionals from Ponce’s women’s team, they plan to make some guest appearances.

This is the final week of the marking period.  The third quarter ends on March 12th.  There will be a period of time where you are locked out of the EdLine system.  This is important to allow for the finalization of the reports for this marking period.  Remember that reports will be mailed home as well as going through the EdLine system beginning again around March 24.

Kite day in the Spanish department will be next week.  The Pre-K and Kinder classes will enjoy this activity on Thursday March 18th.  The Kite Day for grades 1 to 6 will be Friday, March 19th.  Parents are welcome to come take part in this activity.  Look for specific times in next week’s update.

The 6th grade will be leaving for the annual Space Camp learning adventure on Saturday March 20th.   This year, the students will be participating in “Space Academy”, which is a bit more intensive and includes robotics.  We are anticipating an enjoyable learning opportunity.

Cub Scouts, Pack 163

Last Friday we had a very nice Pack meeting. The wolves were in charge and did a marvelous job. Decorations and snacks were very nice! Thanks to Giovana for the organization, Mrs. Vazquez for decorations and Glenda and Vanessa for the cake, dip, and the set up.  The enthusiasm of families and kids was also very important. Our leaders have given the extra mile and provided a lot of activities in order for the scouts to achieve requirements, belt loops, academic loops, etc. Our scouts were very proud of their badges and pins and we are very proud of them, too! We look forward to the next Pack Meeting.
